What is Radiofrequency Microneedling?

Dr. Travis James uses a unique approach that produces fantastic outcomes for our patients with a treatment known as Agnes radiofrequency (RF) microneedling. Traditional RF treatments have existed for years and are well-known in the aesthetic industry for skin tightening. Agnes is targeted microneedling used to treat under-eye bags, lift the lower face and neck, and tighten the skin, using only 1 – 3 needles. At Providence Dermatology in Providence, UT, we often incorporate this new advancement into our patients' skin remedies to produce healthier skin, a much smoother feel, and a luminous complexion.

A variety of factors can cause dull, aged, and rough skin. The Providence, UT individuals who struggle with such skin issues can find RF microneedling an ideal solution to their complaints, gaining benefits from the treatment, including:

  • Better skin surface, tone, and texture
  • Softened, glowing skin that has a natural and moisturized look
  • Stimulation of the body's natural collagen and elastin growth for continued outcomes
  • Overall better appearance of your skin and, with that, confidence in your skin

Who Is an Ideal Candidate for RF Microneedling?

If you are 40 years of age or older and are starting to notice smile lines, age spots, discoloration, and other skin irregularities (which can come with age and sun exposure), RF microneedling might be the ideal treatment for you. RF microneedling is a wonderful choice if you want to:

  • Tighten the skin, creating a more refreshed appearance
  • Enhance skin feel, pigment, and tone
  • Treat skin imperfections such as discoloration and blood vessels
  • Reduce the appearance of age spots and sun damage
  • Improve acne scars and other forms of discoloration
  • Rejuvenate skin for a younger, luminous look

How is RF Microneedling Performed?

Microneedling uses an instrument (with tiny needles on the end) that's rolled carefully around the skin to puncture and make micro-injuries that "disrupt" the tissues and produce collagen. Some even refer to this technique as collagen induction treatment. New skin grows as the skin begins to heal, leaving the top layer feeling and looking brighter, smoother, and refreshed. Although this procedure is commonly done on its own, combining this innovative technique with radiofrequency microneedling technologies has enabled us to maximize patient outcomes.

The method is quite straightforward. The handheld Agnes device emits radiofrequency heat and delivers brief pulses of RF energy. The power is delivered through the needles, which concurrently puncture your skin and returns the electrodes to the skin. The RF energy heats at levels that provide cumulative and continuing benefits.

What To Expect After RF Microneedling

After undergoing RF microneedling, patients can expect a brief downtime as the skin begins healing. It's common to experience redness, swelling, and a sensation similar to a sunburn in the treated areas for the first few days. However, these side effects typically subside within a week, revealing a smoother, firmer, and more rejuvenated complexion. Over the following weeks to months, as collagen production is stimulated, the full benefits of the treatment, including improved skin texture and reduced appearance of scars or wrinkles, will become increasingly visible.
